Barney Fife, Carbohydrates, Blood Glucose, Andy Griffith, Aunt Bee

What happened? Why is it that when you mention you are on a low carb diet, some people will still look at you like you are an idiot and say, “Oh, that Atkins diet”.  The answer, in a nutshell, is that the organizations that dominate public thinking on nutrition, such as the American Medical Association, made a disastrously wrong turn starting in the 1970s, declaring that dietary fat was bad for your health and that, for the sake of your health; you need to eat more carbohydrates2.  Fortunately, public opinion is now swinging back the other way, in acceptance of dietary fat as good for your health (and weight) and carbohydrates, as Barney Fife would say, bad for you.

“Not if you’re watching the old carbohydrates and glucose…”
